I am interested in understanding how plants perceive danger signals, particularly fragmented DNA, and how this perception activates plant immunity. I obtained my undergraduate and master’s training at the Autonomous University of Querétaro (Mexico), where I developed a strong foundation in plant stress biology and became involved in the emerging field of DNA-induced immunity (CONACYT fellowship). Motivated to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying DNA perception in plants, I joined the Plant Ecology Laboratory at Cinvestav (Mexico) as a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Martin Heil and Dr. Alfredo Herrera-Estrella. During my doctoral research, I focused on connecting DNA-induced immune responses with the DNA Damage Response (DDR), integrating concepts from innate immunity, genome surveillance, and plant ecology (CONACYT fellowship). I obtained my PhD in October 2023. In 2024, I joined Jordi’s lab, where I currently work as a Postdoctoral Researcher. My research aims to define how key components of the DDR contribute to DNA-induced immunity, with the long-term goal of identifying novel DNA receptors in plants. By connecting DNA sensing, immune signaling, and stress responses, my work seeks to establish a mechanistic framework for DNA-triggered immunity in plants.
